I am an enthusiastic, passionate individual who prides myself on a strong work ethic. I believe in going above and beyond what is asked in order to maximise the effectiveness of any given project, or the experience of those impacted by that output. I love to learn and put that at the forefront of all of my professional work, consistently reflecting and looking to improve.
I have been a web developer for over 8 years, with a wide and varied set of experiences in terms of delivering projects and working on products. Aside from commercial work, I love self-motivated projects and I have developed a keen interest and expertise in data driven projects, utilising APIs and visualisations.
I am a keen and active member of the coding community, with my CodePen profile being the place where my best thinking takes place, both in terms of code through experiments and example projects, but also through writing articles and tutorials for others to follow. Problem solving is one of my key skills and doing this, programmatically, through code is a real passion of mine.
Aside from coding I have had several articles published in industry publications such as Net Magazine, Creative Bloq and CSS Tricks. I have spoken at The CSS Summit conference, and regularly attend and contribute to industry meet ups. I have recently been hired by the BBC to train their Data Unit in Birmingham, teaching them how to leverage APIs and JavaScript, and I am currently working with a colleague on a book for Data Journalists on how to use JavaScript to enhance their stories and investigations.

Harkive is a research project that takes place each year, asking music fans to submit their stories oh how, why, when and where they listen to music. I have been the technical partner on the project, and have built several tools, applications and platforms to aid the research.
As part of the project I have built a social network using Angular JS in order to capture participants stories, an API using Node JS to allow other developers to access the data and a set of live data visualisations running from the aforementioned API
Our team now takes this experience to other stakeholders and has recently conducted a live mapping project, building a hybrid mobile app, with Cheltenham Jazz Festival, and will also be undertaking a similar project for a Jazz Festival in Sweden.

Edition Records is one of Europe’s leading Jazz record labels and for the last 3 years I have been the label’s web developer, building websites for the label and its artists, as well as designing and delivering marketing materials such as email newsletter templates.
The majority of the work is delivered using WordPress as the content management system, with implementation of ecommerce and custom functionality. My role is that of a consultant, and I am trusted with complete creative control, liaising with the artists and label head on the direction each project should take.

470 Media is a digital marketing agency in Birmingham with a varied range of clients. I worked in house as the company’s web developer, alongside a graphic designer and two account managers to meet clients’ briefs as part of an overall digital marketing strategy.
Again, the work was largely bespoke WordPress builds, allowing the account managers to handle content management, as well as producing interactive marketing materials for the campaigns.

I truly believe that being able to code is one of the most powerful skills one can currently possess, and I’ve had the great opportunity to spread that message through my work in this role.
I designed and deliveredd the vast majority of the modules on the University’s Web & New Media pathway, taking students from no knowledge at all in year one to an almost 100% employability rate at the end of the three year degree.
I successfully applied for and negotiated for funding in order to run extra-curricular activities, and was a popular member of staff amongst both colleagues and students alike, having been nominated for Engaging and Inspiring Teacher of The Year.

I am a keen musician and have been playing in various outfits since the age of 12. I also became more involved in the music industry when I came to run my own independent record label for several years, alongside my main career.
I am a massive fan of sport, particularly cricket and football, and late in life I have found a passion for running, competing in the Great Birmingham Run in 2013. Podcasts and podcasting is a burgeoning interest of mine, and perhaps represents my main form of media consumption in the last few years. I have also put out my own podcast previously and have plans for another.
I am married, and I have a young daughter who manages to trump all of my other interests.
